Franciszek “Frank” Tylka, 71, of Hartford and West Hartford, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Thursday, January 19, 2012 surrounded by family and friends. Frank was born in the village of Ciche near Zakopane, Poland on April 14, 1940. Following a childhood marked by a father lost to the war and a mother who passed away at a young age, Frank immigrated to the United States in 1967, settling in West Hartford. Always known for his warmth, kindness, and generosity, Frank sponsored many family and friends as emigrants to his adopted homeland, helping them to find work, homes, and whatever was asked of him. He was a machinist at Electro-Methods and Stowe Machine for many years, and bartended at the Polish National Home on Sundays for a quarter century, entertaining generations with his abundant jokes, stories, and welcoming smile. In his golden years, Frank revelled in traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and enjoyed spending many summer months with his family back in Poland. In 2011 he went on a long wished for pilgrimage to Padre Pio’s Shrine in Foggia, Italy, and attended the beatification of John Paul II in Rome. Frank will be remembered by his loving family; a sister, Sophie Pabich of Rocky Hill; nephew and godson, Robert A. Pabich; brother & sister in law, Stanislaw and Rose Tylka, in Poland; two nieces and their spouses, Danuta and Jan Zych, along with their children, Adam and Aneta, all of Toronto, Canada, Janina and Tadeusz Komperda, and their children Stas, Jan, and Malgosia; niece Kazia Konopka; nephew Jan Brandt. Frank will also be remembered by his dear friends, Gavan Meehan, Agata Ptak, Teresa Koszut, Zosia Kennedy, and countless others whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents Wojciech and Apolonia Tylka; a sister, Kasia, and a niece, Teressa. Relatives and friends may call on the family on Sunday, January 22nd from 3-6pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 23rd at 10am in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Interment will take place at a later date in Poland.
