Joan (Stock) Hughes, 90, wife of the late Clinton “Jiggs” Hughes, passed away November 5, 2022 in Aaron Manor of Chester. She was born in Buffalo, NY, daughter of the late Cyril and Alice Stock. When Joan first moved to Hartford, she worked at the Institute of Living in Hartford. She met Jiggs while paying tennis in Pope Park. Joan the went on to start a nursery school on Folly Brook Blvd in Wethersfield, after which she opened Highlander Antiques, with Jo McKenzie and later Antiques on Main. She also worked as a Real Estate Agent. Joan was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Village Club and was the Wethersfield Irish Person of the Year, 1996. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and loved her dogs Gretchen, Flossy, Duke, Brie and Rex.
Joan will be greatly missed by her children, Clinton L. Hughes and his wife Nancy of Chester, Holly A. Hughes of Newington and James F. Hughes and his wife Lori Vinci of Wethersfield, her grandchildren, Patrick ad Harrison Feinstein and Richard, Jenna and Jack Hansen, and great-grandchildren, Addyson and Jack Kurzatkowski.
Friends may call from 9:00 to 10:30 am on Thursday November 17, 2022 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery.
